W. Henry Kennedy

East Lansing, Michigan

Age 94, died March 20, 2015; born February 7, 1921 in West Branch, MI to Ferman and Margaret (Montel) Kennedy. Henry was Director of Student Teaching from 1964 until his retirement from Michigan State University as a professor in 1988. He was instrumental in setting up numerous teacher education programs throughout the world. Henry was a longtime member of the Lions Club and served in most of the offices in his local club and district. He also spent one year (1988-1989) as District Governor. Henry was married to Evelyn (Crawford) from 1944 until her death in 1966 and married to Mary (Slavik) from 1967 until her death in 1997. Surviving are his wife, Jean (Schlater); daughter, Carol Lynn (James) Clark; son, William “Bill” Henry (Pam) Kennedy; and step-son, Mark (Beth) Schlater; grandchildren, Scott (Gina) Clark, Laura Martinez, Keith (Candice) Kennedy, Jeff (Crystal) Kennedy, Mandy (Jacob) Olivares and Tony (Amie) Richardson; step-grandchildren, Kate Schlater and Jack Schlater; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 24, 3:00 p.m. at Okemos Community Church, 4734 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI 48864 with Rev. Richard Blunt officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos, MI. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the church.
