Bill was born on March 21, 1940, in Niles, Michigan, to Lynn and Margaret Cain. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1958, where many of his classmates knew him simply as "Newman."
In his early career, Bill worked as a 7-Up delivery driver, a role that suited his friendly nature. He later became a well-known local business owner as the proprietor of the South End Party Store in Nashville, Michigan, and concluded his career with the Michigan Department of Corrections, retiring as a prison guard at the Jackson Correctional Facility.
Beyond his career, Bill was a man of many passions. He had a deep appreciation for vintage cars, loving nothing more than owning classic automobiles and attending local car shows. He was skilled with his hands, taking pride in woodworking, getting dirty with hands-on projects, and showing dogs over the years. Bill also held a lifelong love for antiques. Later in life, alongside his beloved wife Suzanne, he operated antique store fronts in Allen and Lake Odessa, Michigan. If you were searching for something specific or unique, chances are Bill had it somewhere in his vast inventory. Unapologetically himself, Bill was best known for his signature style—he could usually be found proudly wearing a pair of bib overalls to any event, formal or informal.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Margaret Cain, and his brothers, Robert and John "Jack" Cain.
He will be dearly missed by his surviving family: his wife of 35 years, Suzanne "Sue" Cain; his children, Lynn Cain, Heidi (Tony) Tassos, Cori Randall, Kris (Wayne) Parsons, Tim (Val) Pancost; as well as his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Respecting Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Bill’s memory to the Capital Area Humane Society to honor his love for dogs and animals.
