He is survived by his devoted wife, Susanne; his son, Jason, and Jason’s girlfriend, Maria, and her children, John and Michelle; his daughter-in-law, April, the wife of his late son, David; and his cherished grandchildren, Gianni, Andrew, Natalie, and Lindsay. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, David, who passed away from cancer in December 2017.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Andrew was a proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. His love of sports remained throughout his life, and few things brought him greater joy than watching his sons play and celebrating their accomplishments. He later settled in Garden City, Long Island, where he and Susanne raised their family and built a life centered on love and togetherness.
Andrew was happiest on the water. An avid fisherman, scuba diver, and boater, he especially loved Mattituck on Peconic Bay, fishing off Orient Point and Shinnecock. Beginning in 1980, Andrew, Susanne, Jason, and David established a treasured family tradition: spending every summer weekend together in Mattituck, from Friday through Monday. Away from the distractions of television and phones, those weekends were devoted to family, friends, and the simple pleasures of being together.
Andrew welcomed family and friends to Mattituck nearly every weekend, making everyone feel at home. He loved taking guests out on the boat to fish, swim, and water ski, creating memories that would last a lifetime. At day’s end, he and Susanne prepared dinner for everyone, bringing people together around the table for good food, laughter, and conversation. Their home was always open, and there was always room for one more at the table.
Generosity was at the heart of Andrew’s character. He gave freely of his time, shared what he had, and found joy in bringing people together. He deeply loved his daughter-in-law, April, and warmly embraced Maria and her children, John and Michelle. Cooking alongside Susanne and gathering the family for holidays were among his most cherished traditions. For Andrew, the greatest gift was having the people he loved together under one roof.
Above all, Andrew cherished his family. The summers in Mattituck, the days spent on the water, the meals shared with loved ones, and the time spent in Largo, Florida, where the family began spending time together in 2001, will forever hold a special place in their hearts. His legacy is measured not in possessions, but in the people he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the generosity he extended to everyone around him.
Throughout his battle with cancer, right up until the end, Jason would ask his dad, “How are you, Dad?” Andrew’s answer never changed: “I’m Perfect.”
Those two words captured Andrew perfectly. Even in the most difficult moments, they reflected his strength, spirit, and unwavering character. His answer was a simple but powerful reminder of the man he was, and his family will carry those words with them always, forever hearing his voice in them.
Andrew will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends. His legacy lives on in the traditions he created, the lives he touched, the meals he shared, and the love he gave so freely. And whenever his family is asked how they are doing, they will remember Andrew’s answer and the remarkable man behind it:
“I’m Perfect.”
