He was born on May 23, 1936, in Lakeland, Florida, to Dorothy and John B. Davidson. Rogers graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Tennessee and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of South Florida.
Rogers had a distinguished 37-year career as an engineer with Honeywell, where he contributed to the nation’s space program. Outside of work, he gave generously of his time and talents. He was a devoted member of Oakhurst United Methodist Church, a volunteer Master Gardener at the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, and a volunteer math tutor at Seminole High School. He had a deep love for gardening, woodworking, and singing in the church choir.
Rogers was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Davidson.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sharon Davidson and Scott and Julie Davidson; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Pat Smith; his grandchildren, Sam Davidson, Taryn Davidson, Wesley Davidson, Max Smith, and Grace Smith; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joyce Davidson; and his sister, Carolyn Davidson Bennett.
Rogers was known as a kind and gentle man who touched many lives throughout the Seminole and Largo communities. To his family, he was Dad, Grandaddy, and Pop-Pop. While he accomplished much in his life, he considered his greatest blessing to be marrying Mary, the love of his life, and building a family together. Their home in Seminole, which they built in 1969, became the center of countless family gatherings and cherished memories.
Rogers was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His legacy of faith, kindness, service, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew him. While his family finds comfort in knowing that he and Mary are together again, they will miss his steady presence, gentle spirit, and unwavering love.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
