Bernadette Marie (Hickey) Kenison February 11, 1936 - May 11, 2019
Bernadette (Bernie) Hickey was born on February 11, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts. Bernie grew up in Charlestown, Massachusetts with her 8 siblings and parents Mary Catherine (O’Neil) and William Dewey Hickey.
Bernie was an avid roller skater in her youth and formed many lifelong friendships through skating. There were wonderful memories from her days at the Bal-a-Roue skating rink in Medford, MA where Bernie and many of her friends met their future spouses.
In 1956, Bernie married Elmer Leroy (Roy) Kenison Jr. They raised 3 children in Bedford, MA and had a wonderful marriage that lasted 49 years.
She and Roy were competitive league bowlers in the Boston area for many years and Bernie held different positions, including President, of the Greater Boston Women’s Bowling Association.
Later in life, Bernie and Roy moved to the New Atlantis Club in Largo, Florida. Bernie loved going on cruises, playing bingo, and was known to have a few favorite slot machines.
She loved her family. Her son Bill lives in Massachusetts with his wonderful wife Lynne, their son Benjamin, and daughter Jessica Kenison-White and her husband, Kevin White. Her daughter Elaine, lives in Nevada with partner Michael St. Pierre. Sadly, Bernie was predeceased by her husband and first-born daughter, Janet.
Bernie is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth (Hickey) Ryan and her husband Bill, of Hermosa Beach, CA.
Always singing, dancing, smiling, and taking care of others, Bernie lived her life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew her.
It gives Bernie’s family great comfort in knowing she is now at peace and is with her husband and daughter and all the other family who passed before her.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 10895 Hamlin Blvd, Largo FL 33774.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Massachusetts. Condolences may be offered at www.serenityfuneralhomelargo.com.

My dear sister,
My eyes filled with tears when I first heard you had left this life for Heaven. Then I remembered the gift of life had provided us with so many loving and happy moments. Yes, I will miss the times we spent together reminiscing about our favorite family happenings, singing 'oldies but goodies,' gambling in casinos, playing card games, and just being together.
My love for you will never fade and each time I think of you, the warmth of the good times will bring me comfort.
I will always love you, Bernie,
Your sister, Betty

Bernie’s life was one of love and service to her family, Roy’s family, friends and neighbors. She lost so many family members, but her optimism continued and never wavered. She will be missed by so many. We’ve loved her and her family for so many years. Our love and sympathy to all her family, from two of her old skating buddies and participants of the Friday night gatherings (with all the children).

Michael and Janet had the pleasure of meeting Bernie many years ago through their friendship with the Denning Family. We have shared some good times with Bernie and Roy, been on cruises with Bernie. We will miss her so much, such a wonderful kind lady! R.I.P. Berniexx
