Born in Lakeland, Betty was a proud graduate of Lakeland High School, Class of 1959, and also completed her DCT program (TR Trucker Real Estate). She built a long and respected career as a legal secretary, known for her professionalism, loyalty, and steady presence.
On February 16, 1963, Betty married the love of her life, Robert (“Bob”) Bettag. Their marriage was a true partnership built on devotion, faith, and deep affection. Betty longed to be a mother, and in 1970 her dream came true when she and Bob joyfully adopted their daughter, Melodie Melissa Bettag (Burke). Becoming a mother, and later a nana, was the greatest blessing of her life.
Betty was a devoted wife, loving mom, and proud nana, as well as a caring daughter and sister. She adored dogs and shared a special bond with her beloved Tink. Her interests were wide and heartfelt; crafts, bridge, gardening, and time spent with family. Her smile truly lit up every room she entered.
A strong Christian woman, Betty was active for many years at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she found community, purpose, and lifelong friendships.
She is survived by her daughter Melodie Burke, grandson Michael Burke, sister Mary Benton, and brother Zora Lee Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob.
