Betty “Jean” Sasser, 83, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on Monday September 9, 2019. After a difficult battle with illness, the Lord called her home. She was born in Clayton, Alabama on September 8, 1936 to Pearlie Mae and William Henry Wilkerson. She came from a farming family, including 2 sisters and 2 brothers (Earline, Shirley, Cecil and Jesse). While attending church, she met the love of her life, Lomax, and they were married. Eventually they relocated to Florida from Alabama and started a family.

Ice cream was her most favorite treat. Jean loved gardening, going to the beach, watching the sunsets, searching for sea shells, sea glass, and shark’s teeth. Jean was also fond of butterflies and birds, often colleting bird feathers. She found enjoyment in photography, crafting, crossword puzzles and reading books. Everyone loved her home cooking. A favorite was her chocolate cake recipe (a frequent request for birthdays and holidays). Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed everyone one of them immensely. She was loved by all, very kind hearted and soft spoken. She loved God with all her heart and attended Abundant life Ministries Church. Jean never met a stranger and loved others with unconditional love.

Jean is survived by her children, Gloria Sasser (Tom); Timothy Sasser; Glenda Sasser, and Thomas Sasser (Tonya), as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Shirley Slappey (Jim). She is predeceased by her husband, Lomax Sasser, grand-daughter Sherri Patricia, and her siblings, Earline, Cecil, and Jesse.

She leaves behind quite a legacy and will be missed dearly. We celebrate her life and rejoice knowing she is pain free and in the arms of her savior Jesus, in heaven.

I have so many fond memories of Nana. From our adventures to get ice cream and thrift stores as a kid. To playing golf together and me getting frustrated. Coming over to your house just to spend time with you with my friends in middle school and high school. You being the first person to ever hear my first songs and recordings and encouraging me to share it with the masses. Which started one of my favorite traditions as an artist. As soon as I finished a project, I would rush over to your house and give you my first printed copy and we would sit and listen to it together in your cheap little CD player. After we were done you always said, “ wow, that’s so beautiful.” I will miss getting the random phone calls asking “where are you today?” Which I would then describe where I was in the county and how beautiful it was. We loved spending time with you and you being my nana, my wife’s nana, and all 3 of my kids nana. I’m honored that my music, which you loved so much, was the last thing you would hear on earth as you were ushered into heaven with Jesus. I will always love you.

Your grand son-
Jeremy

Growing up one of my fondest memories was spending time with Gloria at your home. You were the kindest sweetest gentle mother. May you rest in peace .
