C. David Wingfield, Sr. DO

Wingfield, Dr. C. David, Sr. of Belleair, Florida, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated physician to many, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Dr. Wingfield was born in Washington, D.C., on August 18, 1937 to the late Charles Arthur and Christine Wingfield.

As a young boy who lived within walking distance of Walter Reed Hospital, Dr. Wingfield would shine some of the hospitalized veterans shoes. He was so proficient that the veterans gave him his own “storage locker” for his supplies!

He graduated from Gettysburg College with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. He was the Co-Captain of the tennis team as well as during summer vacations between college sessions. He taught tennis at the Congressional Country Club. Among his students were the late President Nixon’s daughters.

He attended Philadelphia School of Osteopathic Medicine; and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Osteopathic General Hospital in Miami, Florida.

After moving to the Largo, Florida area with his wife and two young sons, he co-founded Suncoast Internal Medicine Consultants. Dr. Wingfield was one of the first two physicians in Pinellas County to be credentialed in Nuclear Medicine where he headed the department until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Kathleen, two sons, Jeffrey (Julie) Wingfield; C. David Wingfield, Jr.D.O., granddaughter, Olivia Louise Wingfield, sister Dale (Ray) Ruf, brothers-in-law Dr. David (Judy) Mullen; Douglas T. (Karyn) Mullen; five nieces and four nephews; as well as many devoted, life-long family, friends and colleagues.

Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, Largo on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 pm. A funeral service will take place at Christ Presbyterian Church, Largo on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 4:00 pm.
