

Marian "Charlene" Segrest Glenn passed away peacefully on February 18, 2022 in Largo, Florida at the age of 79 following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Charlene was born in Pensacola, FL on September 24, 1942 to Dr. Charles and Margaret Segrest, and grew up in Saint Augustine, FL. She attended Florida State University where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. While at FSU, she became an active member of Delta Gamma Fraternity where she discovered her joy for serving others. Charlene's love of children was evident by her years of service as a kindergarten teacher and through the special bond she had with her grandchildren. She was incredibly creative, a wonderful cook, a gifted interior designer, loved her dogs deeply, and enjoyed a number of hobbies including travel, needlepoint, knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, and basket making. Charlene often donated her handicrafts to benefit local charitable organizations, especially those that worked with women and children. Following many years in Clearwater, Florida, Charlene and her late husband Howell Glenn retired to Western North Carolina where they shared a number of interests and activities. Charlene was a gracious hostess, opening their home for Supper Club, Sunday School parties, crafting groups and many lovely dinners with friends. Charlene and Howell built and decorated several houses together, were very active in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and volunteered often on behalf of Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. They combined her passion for teaching with his love of mission work on several journeys to China where they taught English at Chinese universities.Charlene is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Charles S. Segrest and Margaret G. Segrest; and her husband, Paul Howell Glenn, Jr. Charlene is survived by her children, Claire (Rob) Farnell, Scott Wieteska, Gretchen (Tom) Pascoe, Lara (Marc) Adelberger, and seven grandchildren: Haley Farnell, Briland (Sydney) Schack-Farnell, Rhett (Maddie) Farnell, Nate Pascoe, Drew Pascoe, Paige Adelberger and Megan Adelberger, as well as her siblings: Philip (Sherry) Segrest and Celeste Segrest. Charlene will be interred alongside her loving husband Howell in Decatur, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 11:00AM.
