Charles "Chuck" Hershel Harrison, 91, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Largo, Florida. He was born in Morocco, Indiana, on a warm, summer day-July 10,1934- clearly setting the tone for a man who would spend the next nine decades bringing light, a kind words, laughter and a smile that would light up the room to everyone around him. He never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with everyone he ever met.
Chuck was the middle son of his late father, Hershel Harrison, and his late mother, Grace Roush. He spent many years working in the steel mills of northwest Indiana as a coal researcher, where he developed a work ethic that could put most people half his age to
shame. After retiring and moving to Florida, he began what he liked to call his "second career"-working as a realtor and later at Microsoft on a help desk, where he patiently guided people through their computer troubles. (Some say he had the patience of a saint; others say he just enjoyed being the smartest guy in the room, but it was still done with the kindest of intentions.)
He moved from Morocco, Indiana, to Crown Point, where he met the love of his life, Kennetha "Kay" (Bingham) Harrison. They married on March 28,1964, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, laughter, and occasional debates about who had left the lights on or why the TV had to be turned up so loud. Together, Chuck and Kay raised six children in Crown Point, Indiana-a feat that alone should qualify them for a lifetime achievement award. They were also foster parents for well over 45 children. Whew!
Chuck proudly served in the Air Force and then as a Veteran and gave back to his community in countless ways, including driving the "old veterans around on the bus when he was in his 80s." He served on the school board, was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Scandinavian Club, and a dedicated member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon for 11 years. If there was a way to help, Chuck found it-and usually showed up early.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kennetha "Kay" (Bingham) Harrison, whom he was married to for just shy of 62 years; and his six children: Erie Harrison (Debbie), Judy (David) Wade, Joseph Harrison (Michelle), David Harrison, Tracy Harrison, and Gailyn Harrison. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren-Jennifer Dyer, Michaela Harrison Cerrillo, Briana Harrison Burriss, Noah Wade, Chloe, Wade, Keilah Harrison Kalikaimaka, and Anu Harrison; and one great-grandchild, Uhiwailani -who all brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James Harrison and Francis Harrison, who we imagine, were waiting to greet him with open arms and maybe a little brotherly teasing.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10 AM, with funeral services to follow at 11 AM at his home church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 10891 102nd Ave North, Seminole, FL 33778. Guests are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life well lived.
A small graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, lN 46307, after his body is transported back to Indiana. This will be the week following the funeral with the date to be determined. Guests are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life well lived.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VA at www.cdceportal.va.gov in lieu of flowers.
