

He was born in Antigo, WI to the late Archie and Florence McPhail.
He was captain of his high school basketball team and senior class president. He attended the University of Wisconsin.
He married the love of his life, Gladys, in 1943 and was married to her until her passing in 2010.
He was drafted into the Army during WWII and served in the Army Corp of Transportation in Arcadia, FL, and San Francisco as 1st lieutenant. He returned to railroad life with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and served is several management capacities. He was Vice President and General Manager of the Detroit and Toledo Shoreline Railroad. Upon retiring from railroad life, he founded Railroad Placement Services, Inc.
He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church for many years.
He is survived by son, Douglas (Dottie) McPhail of Indianapolis, IN, Thomas (Nancy) McPhail of Gardnerville, NV, and Richard (Mary) McPhail of Bonita Springs, FL. He had three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He last resided at Brookdale Pinecrest Retirement Living where he had many friends that he enjoyed being with very much. The family is grateful for all the gracious services of care and attention provided him by the wonderful staff and loving caregivers.
The graveside service will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 1pm with military honors at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park.
A reception will follow in his honor.
