Even though David left school in the eighth grade, he later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida, graduating with honors. During World War II, he served as a Merchant Mariner, helping transport vital supplies overseas to support the war effort.
Throughout his working life, David held a variety of jobs, including ice delivery boy, bowling pin setter, and post office clerk. He also worked in appliance repair and boat building. He eventually worked in electrical engineering at Honeywell in Clearwater, Florida, where he worked on space shuttle projects.
David married Geraldine Orr on February 10, 1951. His interests included sailing, carpentry, and working on projects with his hands. He enjoyed building, repairing, and could fix anything. His faith was also an important part of his life, and he was involved with several churches and mission work throughout the years.
David is survived by his children, Beverly Ridge (Dave), Denise Wisse (Jerry), David Brooks III, and Dan Brooks (Anna); his sister, Leah Feola; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on October 30, 2026, at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774.
