He was born on Oct 22, 1940 in Willimantic, Conn. To Edna May Langworthy & Irving Stewart Langworthy.
In Don’s first marriage of 6 years he had 3 daughters. After a period of time his first marriage ended and he met the love of his life Kim Ellen Chandler. They were married on June 21, 1967 and had one son. In 1979 Don moved his family to Florida to enjoy the sunny WARMER climate. Don and Kim were married for the next 56 years until he passed. He was survived by his wife Kim Langworthy, Sister Judith McKain, Daughters: Cheryl Langworthy and Michelle Deen, Son Don Langworthy Jr, Daughter-in-law Denise Langworthy and Grandchildren: Kyler, Aaron, Andy, Nicholas and Vienna. He was predeceased by his youngest daughter Jody Langworthy.
Don had a few occupations over the years. He was a tractor trailer driver where he delivered goods or helped people move for most of his career. He also was a warehouse manager and the secretary at the masonic lodges where he was a member for several years.
Don became a born again Christian in 1980. Don and Kim have attended services at various churches over the years. They have spent the last 10 years with their church family at Crossroads Christian Church. They both love Pastor Harold and value his teachings. They have learned so much from him and for that they are eternally grateful. They love this church and are so thankful for everyone there.
While at his brother-in-law Richard’s funeral he was so impressed by the masonic service, that was when he found a passion for masonry. In June of 1992 Don became a 32nd degree mason. Over the next 32 years of masonic service he held numerous positions within the lodges that he was a member of. He was the Master of the Star lodge twice and the Secretary for a couple of years. Then in his
later years he became a member at the Clearwater lodge where he was the secretary for 6 years. Over many of the years he spent a lot of his time helping coach many other up and coming men through the degrees to become masons themselves. Through his years at the lodges he made many great friends and they call each other brothers. He treasured those relationships!
In 2005 Don & Kim bought a diesel truck and a 5th wheel camper. They spent the next 3 years traveling the country visiting numerous states along the way. Don and Kim cherished this time traveling together and greatly enjoyed all the national parks. They felt that what President Roosevelt and the government did to preserve the land for the people to enjoy was one of the greatest decisions in our time. Then in 2007 Don and Kim packed up once again and moved to Maui, Hawaii for 6 months. There they enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the Hawaiian people / culture. After their 6-month Hawaiian retreat they shipped their car back to the west coast where they started another long trip across the country once again. During that trip back to Florida they stopped to see friends and saw many more sites along the way. They were impressed by the Golden Gate bridge, The Alamo, the river walk and Alcatraz.
Don showed signs of technical skills and mechanical aptitude at an early age. When he was approximately 10 years old, he and his sister found duck eggs. He designed and built and incubator to care for the eggs until they hatched. He then used an old cast iron sink and put it into the ground to make a pond and built a fence around it for the newly hatched ducklings. At the age of 12 or 13 he built what we would now call a zip line across a babbling broke. Later he decided to go into technical school and then he joined the Navy to become a Seabee where he helped to build military bases.
Don had a passion for archery, radio control airplanes, amateur ham radio but his favorite was computers. He loved to put his analytical and technical skills to use in building and working on computers. One of his first computers was a Tandy
machine with a monochrome green screen. He was self-taught due to many years of tinkering and working on them. He became very good at it and so he was a valued resource to many friends and family members to help them build or repair them. Along with building and repairing them he loved spending time researching things and doing other projects on the computers as well. Computers were logical which fit his logical thinking process and he loved that.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 on April 10, 2024 at Crossroads Christian Church. In leu of flowers you can make donations to the church.
