Edward Lee McDonald

November 25, 1928 – October 3, 2022
Obituary of Edward Lee McDonald
IN THE CARE OF

Serenity Funeral Home & Serenity Gardens Memorial Park

Edward Lee McDonald passed away peacefully October 3 with family at his home in Largo, Florida. He was 93. He will be sadly missed and always hold a place in our hearts.

Edward was born November 25, 1928, in Fort Valley, Georgia, and grew up in Gordon, Georgia, near Macon. He spent most of his working life in Marion, South Carolina, where he was a foreman at the Stone Container paper mill. He retired to Largo in 1992 and served as president of the New Atlantis Club condominium for many years.

Edward enjoyed singing and loved to watch his grandson Riley McDonald play baseball.

He served in the Navy on the USS Albany. He always said that his battle station was in the boiler room and his job, as a mechanic, was to keep the ship running.

Edward is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia McDonald of Largo; three children, Cindy Benedict of Tampa, Jeffrey Lee McDonald of Largo and Christopher McDonald of St. Petersburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Edna McDonald; daughter Terry McDonald; son Verlon McDonald; and sister Martha Smith.

His family will hold a celebration of his life to honor his memory. It will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
