On February 2, 1954, Betty married Aubrey Julius Barton at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Chickasaw, Alabama. Shortly thereafter they began to raise their own family of five, Kathy, John, Kevin, Keith, and Jeryl Lynn. A set of twin boys, James and John, passed away shortly after birth. The family grew up first in Mobile, Alabama and finally in Largo, Florida. Over time, six grandchildren were added to the family, Rosie, Andrew, Kaley, Michael, Tyler, and Zachary.
Frances Elizabeth has been known by many names over the years among family and friends - Bet, Betty, Aunt Bet, Aunt Betty, mom, Momma BB. When the first grandchild, Rosie, came along, she became Mimi forever more.
Over the years, Betty was actively involved in volunteer work at both St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Largo, Florida.
She was a devout Catholic and in later years she went to daily Mass as long as it was possible for her to attend. After moving to the Palms of Largo she attended the weekly Rosary. She loved angels and religious memorabilia which led to many a Christmas or birthday gift.
During earlier years she enjoyed gardening in her yard in Largo. She had a love for critters, especially raccoons. This too led to many a Christmas or birthday gift.
During her later years she loved doing jigsaw puzzles and word searches, as well as watching the local sports teams, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Buccaneers, and the Lightning, on TV.
On the evening of February 24, 2019, Frances Elizabeth Barton made her final journey home.
We will miss you greatly, but take comfort in knowing you have been reunited with all the family who preceded you.
When the move to the Palms of Largo became inevitable, we tried to convince Mimi to reduce her sizable collections that had been gathered over the years. She was adamant about keeping more than we thought was practical. This week as we looked through those collectibles, gifts given with love, we realize they are being returned to us with love.
Rest In Peace Mimi
