

86, of Largo, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Woodside Hospice House in Pinellas Park, FL. George was born on August 12, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA to George J & Ruby L (Brackney) Blakemore, Sr. who predeceased him. George moved to this area in 1963 from Washington, DC. He worked for Honeywell with the Space Program. During WWII he served with the 25th Infantry Division participating in the Solomons and Philippine Islands Campaigns and the subsequent occupation of Japan. He was a statistic an / engineer and worked for the M.I.T. Draper Laboratory retiring in 1984. George and Marcia (Shindel) were married on June 25, 1971 in Largo, FL and she survives. Also surviving is a brother Harold Blakemore of Ocean City, NJ, a nephew Harold J. “Hal” (Donna) of Exton, PA, two nieces Jackie (Scott) Kurzenski of Springfield, PA and Barbara Ann (Rick) Wagner of Somerdale, NJ along with two great nieces Kellyn (Ross) Muller and Melissa Kurzenski, a great nephew Scott Kurzenski, Jr. and a great great niece Alexa Rose Muller. Memorial contributions may be given to the Christ the King Lutheran Church or Woodside Hospice House.
