We just learned of Bill's passing and are so sad. Living in Arkansas, we hadn't seen him or Denis in over a year but have so many treasured memories from the past 25 years, from when Bill and Denis were our next door neighbors in Treasure Island to dinners with them and many, many fabulous breakfasts at the Frog Pond.  We enjoyed his crazy sense of humor and know he's making the angels laugh now. Bill had a huge heart too with all his Hospice work and his caring ways for people in need. Our thoughts are with Denis, hoping he will find comfort and peace from how loved he and Bill are by so many.

Denis, Mom & I just learned the sad news today while on yet another return trip to Largo Med. We are very sad with Bill's passing but very glad to have had a little time with him a few weeks ago while he and Jane were "hallway-mates" at Largo Med. Bill was unique. He had class. His grooming was immaculate and social skills impeccable. Bill's quick witt was impossible to keep up with. His observations and attention to details were impressive, along with his memory for people and their
 interests. He would circulate visiting with customers and mentally record things that need attention or improvement. Our grandchildren recognized these qualities and looked forward to seeing him on their regular winter visits.

So many of us have unlimited memories of Bill. "The gifts Bill has given us will stay with us along the way." I don't mean material gifts, not those that can be seen or counted, but those intrinsic ones that Bill so generously & quietly gave to Frog Pond customers, workers, friends, strangers, & people in need. His random acts of kindness oftentimes went unnoticed as many focused on his quirky sense of humor and sarcasm. His infectious laugh was a welcome addition at the Frog Pond or in any social situation. He was willing to share business tips, to educate willing workers, to subtly live his faith. I read once that being forgotten is the only real death. None of us will forget Bill.  He has gone on to another place, a different life, but we will not forget him in this life. We can all hope for the blessing of remembrance and gain comfort in knowing how many lives Bill touched in such a positive way. If we are loved and remembered, then we live on forever in the hearts of those who love us.  Bill will definitely live on in my heart and certainly in the hearts of those whose knew and loved him. While we are suffering the loss of Bill, he is safe, in peace and pain-free. So, to you, Denis, Barbara & David, I pray that your memories will sustain you because they are the reality of your deep love for the wonderful, funny man we knew as "Bill."
Our gracious God does not give us anything we can't handle.  I'll share my special angels with you so that they can help you handle your grief.
I have almost 30 years of memories of Bill, and when I think of him, I automatically smile. I could go on and on, remembering all the humorous antics that Bill exhibited over the years. However, one special moment that stands out more than any happened the day after I returned home from several days in the hospital, having surgery.  Early that morning, I hobbled to the door to answer the doorbell, and there stood Bill with two "take-out" containers, one filled with my favorite breakfast, and another with my husband's breakfast. I am smiling with that memory.

I remember riding the escalator at Tampa Airport when a couple called out,"See you at the Frog Pond."  What a family you and Denis created. His quick wit always brought a laugh and he was just fun to be around.  We had some wonderful, meaningful talks and his faith in God was very evident. Bill, I hadn't know you all that long, but my parents--Adrian & Margarita-- adored you and the selfless acts of consoling people under Hospice care.  The last breakfast we had together @ the St Pete Beach location, you and Denis, my mom & dad had a great time and you were hilarious...I remember both of us laughing outloud and you made me feel like I had known you for years...I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that you had that effect upon!!  God bless you, your family and friends...I know you are missed.

To me, you will always be "The Colonel".  I would say I now have another angel to look after me in Heaven, but I can just see you rolling your eyes when I say that!  You are, and always will be, a very special man to me.  I love you.

I light this candle for my Uncle Billy. His humor was contagious. His love of family and friends and his ever present positive outlook on life, where an inspiration for me. I feel we shared deep love and commitment for our pets. His babies will miss him. My Mother and Denis are in my prayers. I know they where blessed to spend his last days on earth together.

Bill presided over his customers at the Frog Pond with a combination of care about the quality and presentation of the food served and care for the customers as individuals.  He combined humor and feigned sarcasm to keep everyone laughing.  I will miss his warmth.  My sincerest sympathy to Bill's dear life-partner, Denis, and to his adopted son, David.

It has been our pleasure to know such a kind, funny and talented man.  We feel blessed that we got to talk to him and Denis at a friend's wedding in November. We met Bill and Denis in Skylake.  A group of us meet once a week to share snacks, a little wine, talking….actually just sitting around “talking story!”  Bill's laugh and wit were infectious…and there was never anyone at our gathering that he did not greet by name.

When Bill and Denis sold their home in Skylake, it was a loss to our community but not a loss of our friendship.  

Bill invited us to the Frog Pond but was very upfront….don't expect a discount!  Well, we had the opportunity to dine there last year with two other couples from Skylake…true to his word…no discount!

Denis, we are praying for you as you begin another part of your journey in life…but without Bill.

My family and I became friends with Bill and the gang through the Frog Pond many years ago when I was just my son's age. Bill, what can we say...there have been so many laughs, so much harrassment, so many good times and family celebrations at the restaurant these past 25+ years.  You and The Frog Pond have been an integral part of our family's very existence. The love and friendship of you and Denis will forever be with us. May God bless you forevermore.  Love you Bill...

Bill and Denis, getting to know you both has been one of the high points of moving to Skylake. The love, grace and wit that you carry with you made every get-together a joy. Denis, Hill and I think of you every day. Bill, we will miss your terrific sense of humor. Only you could have made Hill aware of his choice of shoes!

Bill where do I begin a mentor a teacher a friend and a father you where there through thick and thin through my mistakes and my break ups and now 23 yrs later you have had brian for as long as I have and that means so much to us my love for you was so great and I do not know what I am going to do without you it still has not set in I miss you so much as I cry writing this and now it is my turn to protect and watch over denis as my father thanks for all you have given me and the knowledge you bestowed on me the world and my world will not be the same with all my love thanks David Hitterman your adopted son by love

Steve and I "found" Skylake and Bill and Denis in 2007....what a great find in buying their beautiful home from them. With the purchase of "their" home was the bonus of "their" friendship and the fun and laughter we would have with Bill and Denis.  They were the entree for us newbees to meet the Skylakers and always made sure we were invited and included in the events in both Skylake and Sautee Nachoochee Center.

Bill with his charm and smiles ...brought great joy to our lives...he will be missed.  Thank you Bill .....Love, Connie and Steve (The Cooke's)

We were so sad to hear the news of Bill's death.  He was a great friend and gave so much of himself to others.  Skylake won't be the same without his smiling face. You will be missed Bill with your infectious smile and jokes. You were always so good to everyone with a word of wisdom and direction. Denis will find a void in his life but will move on as you would want to continue with your lecacy. David will miss the "Dad" that he saw in you but will make you proud with all the tools you gave him to be a fine young man. My prayers go to all the family and may God Bless everyone.

We have been most fortunate to have experienced so many joys and happiness with Denis and Bill for the past 20+ years.  Sometimes, being the butt of his jokes, but more often sharing laughs and good times.   We have also lived just a few doors from them a few times during one of their many relocations.   We also came from Chicago and have a lot more in common.  We will miss Bill tremendously and will keep Denis close in thought, prayer and presence.       Don  and  Stew
