Gerry met her future husband, James Marshall, for the first time in 1954. They struck up a friendship, and rekindled it when James returned from the service in 1960. They married a year later on September 9, 1961. Together they built a beautiful life filled with family, faith and laughter. They had two children: James Jr. and Wendy.
Gerry was a longtime employee of Eckerd’s. She held various positions and worked her way from the cosmetics to the photo lab through customer service, and eventually became a manager. Later on she was employed by Adva-lite where she worked in sales and customer relations. One year she was responsible for the sales and supplying the hand held lights for the Super Bowl in Tampa.
In her spare time Gerry loved being with her family, scrolling Facebook or playing a game on her phone, catching up with old friends, and summer vacationing in the North Carolina or Tennessee mountains with family and close friends. Gerry was devoted to her mother, Hester, and took care of her until she passed at the age of 93 in 2008. Gerry was known for having a sweet tooth and could not resist a coconut dessert – especially coconut cake. She enjoyed following General Hospital, American Idol, Grey’s Anatomy, and the Bachelor.
Gerry was preceded in death by her brother Edwin Michel, and granddaughter Molly Selleck. She is survived and remembered by her loving husband of 58 years, James “Jim” Marshall, children, James Jr. “Jim” Marshall (Anne-Marie) and Wendy (Bob) Selleck, grandsons, Jacob Selleck, and Brett and Brandon Marshall, loving sister Joan Rodi, and sister in law Linda Farnen, with whom she shared a special bond for over 60 years. Gerry is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
