James (“Jim”) Robert McCormick, 91, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026. He was born in 1935 in Ontonagon, Michigan. While attending High School in Escanaba, Michigan, he enjoyed playing the sousaphone in both the school and community bands.
Jim graduated from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor with his BSE degree with a major in electrical engineering. He served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army before joining Univac in Connecticut. After that, he joined Honeywell. In August 1965, Jim married Kay Schultz in Bad Axe, Michigan. They landed in Clearwater and were blessed with their son Robert in 1968. Their second blessing, a daughter - Laura, was born in 1971.
At Honeywell, in addition to other things, Jim worked on developing and testing guidance system for various missile programs. After 36 years, he retired in 1998. It may not be surprising that earlier he personally built his own television. Jim was an avid reader and daily solved challenging puzzles.
He is survived by his wife Kay of Clearwater, Florida; son Robert (Lisa) of St. Petersburg, Florida; daughter Laura of Hesperia, California; and his beloved grandchildren, Drew (Taylor) of Washington, D.C., Sam (Maria and great-granddaughter Ruby) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Will of Charlottesville, Virginia.
