

AMMONS, John D. 83, of Largo died March 4, 2015 at Bay Pines Vetearns Hospital in St. Petersburg. He was born in 1931 to Johnnie and Mary (Glenn) Ammons. John relocated to Florida from Knoxville, TN in 1966 and worked as a plant operator for the Pinellas County Board of Education until his retirement in 2007. He served with the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was honorably discharged at the rank of captain. He was a member of the Shriner’s Temple in Tampa. He was an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols and Miami Dolphins. He was a proud American and made sure his children and grandchildren were also. Survivors include sons, John Ammons (Erica), Loudon, TN, Brian Ammons (Jaclyn), Largo; a daughter Pam Brice (David), Halls, TN; and grandchildren, Connor, Jarrett, Parker, Seth, Landon, Mary Rose, and Logan. He is predeceased by a brother, Buster Ammons and sister, Jean Quarles. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, March 9th 2015 at 12 pm at Serenity Funeral Home 13401 Indian Rocks Road in Largo. Visitation hours are Monday from 11 am until service time. Mr. Ammons will be laid to rest with his parents and brother in Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.
