John L. Hunsaker, 84, of Clearwater, FL went to his eternal home on July 4, 2020. John was born December 10, 1935 in Camp Point, Illinois to Kenneth and Clara Ellwood Hunsaker. John grew up in Camp Point, graduating from Maplewood/Central High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952 serving in both the Reserves and Active duty for 31 plus years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1984. He married his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Justice on May 23, 1964. They had 3 children, Vickie – Clearwater, FL, Michael (Bonnie) and 3 grandsons – Eric, Derek and Garrett -Suwanee, GA, and Kimberly – Suwanee, GA. John is preceded in death by his parents and brothers – Ralph Leland, Keith Garl and Kenneth Carl. He is survived by his sister, Juanita Simmons of Liberty, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins. After retiring from the Navy, John worked in mortgage banking, at Dignity Funeral Homes and as a security guard. John was a life member of Benjamin Lodge #297 A.F. & A.M. of Camp Point, IL for 62 years and attended Star Lodge #78 of Largo for over 37 years, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa, Egypt Temple Shrine – serving on the Shrine Tech Staff, Order of Quetzalcoatl – Los Tampateca Teocalli No. 142 Valley of Tampa, and Magnolia No. 101 Order of Eastern Star of Largo serving several times as Worthy Patron. He also served on the Masonic Youth Advisory Board of Largo #86 of Largo, FL International Order of Rainbow for Girls. He enjoyed his involvement in the Masonic Fraternal Orders. John was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He enjoyed fishing and bowling in his younger years and traveling with his family on cruises, to Disney World and other parts of the United States. He loved watching baseball, especially the Tampa Bay Rays. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Star Lodge, 1145 Highland Ave., Largo, FL.
