Joseph John Adamovitz

January 18, 1955 – April 25, 2025
Obituary of Joseph John Adamovitz
IN THE CARE OF

Serenity Funeral Home & Serenity Gardens Memorial Park

Joseph John Adamovitz, 70, passed away peacefully in Seminole, FL on April 25, 2025.

He was born on January 18, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois to his parents, the late Joseph Adamovitz and Eileen West Adamovitz.

Joe was a devoted husband survived by his wife, Megan Mahoney Adamovitz, whom he wed on September 23, 2006, in Utica, Illinois, which was one heck of a party at Starved Rock Lodge.

Growing up on the south side of Chicago he made many lifelong friends. Joseph was a graduate of Gage Park High School in 1972.

Joseph started his career at ComEd as a meter reader in 1978. He then went on to work in underground construction where he drove everyone crazy with his demands for a neat and tidy truck. He finished his career in 2013 as an engineer. During his lengthy career, he made many lifelong friends that he called brothers. After completing 35 years of service at ComEd, Joe thoroughly enjoyed his 12 years of retirement in Florida. He enjoyed his new friends and neighbors there, and also got to see some of his ComEd buds that were Florida snowbirds.

Joe, the tattooed, bald and bearded guy, sure loved to ride his Harley. He generously gave his time to the Chicagoland Toys for Tots organization attending annual motorcycle parades and events. Joe went on several motorcycle trips, and he loved to attend various drag racing events throughout the country.

Joe was an avid reader, Stephen King and Anne Rice were two of his many favorites. Some of his greatest joys were attending more concerts that could be counted. Cats was his absolute favorite musical, and he was selected by countless feline fur babies throughout his adult life.

He loved to travel and was fortunate to honeymoon in Bora Bora, and vacationed in Mexico, England, France and Italy, among many locations in the U.S.

Joe made sarcasm an art form. He could never turn down an opportunity to be sarcastic. He loved to joke around and harass his favorite servers at many local restaurants.

He was preceded in death by his dearly loved daughter Samantha Erin Adamovitz. He was also preceded in death by his sister Bonita Adamovitz Johnson and brothers-in-law Paul Johnson, Gene Gomes, and Forrest Duncan.

He is survived by his twin sister Julie Adamovitz Gomes, sister (aka Matriarch of the Family) Sandra Adamovitz Smith, and sister Cynthia Adamovitz Duncan.

He was everyone’s favorite uncle. His memories will live on with his nieces and nephews, Haley, Ashley, Jena, Jill, Jayne, Larry, John, Rob, Vicki, Jamaica, Eliza and Colin. He will be missed by his numerous great nieces and nephews.

A toast Joe loved was: “Years, lovers and shots of Jack Daniels should never be counted.”

A celebration of his life will be held at a future date to honor his fun-loving spirit in the manner he would have wanted.
