Roy Nelson passed away on March 7, 2021 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Laurence D. Nelson and Martha Emma (Ward) Nelson on October 25, 1937 in Union City, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania. He was the first of three children, sisters Janice and Bonnie. Roy graduated from Wesleyville High School in 1955.
They all moved to Largo Florida in 1956 where Roy met and married Ellen (Pixley) Nelson in 1959 and had two children, Dena and Jerry. A resident of Largo for over 40 years, he worked as a successful RV Manufacturing Agent.
Roy was a 57 year member & Past Master of Star Lodge 78 F&AM, Largo. He enjoyed sailing and was an avid golfer. A member of the Clearwater Community Church and volunteered his time for Hospice. He was known as a hard-working and dedicated man with great integrity and skill.
Roy is survived by Ellen, his wife of 61 years; daughter, Dena (Doug); sister, Janice; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry, and sister, Bonnie.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Saturday, April 17 at 3 PM with visitation from 2 pm to service. Interment and a reception will follow service. Donations in memoriam to Roy may be made to Suncoast Hospice.
