Lawrence Vera Mello

MELLO, Lawrence V.” Larry”, 88, of Largo, died Oct. 9, 2013. He was born in New Bedford, MA and moved to Largo in 1964 from Minnneapolis, MN. He retired as Lt. Col. in the US Air Force after serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corp during WW II and the Korean Conflict. Before retiring in 1988, he was a mechanical engineer for Honeywell. As a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, he served as Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Holy Name Society, a member of the Ministry of Presence, and Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Msgr. McCall Council #4892. He was a member of the American Legion Post #119, Largo and the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen; children, Lawrence “Lance” (Vicky), Dunedin, Shawn, Largo, Kevin (Kimberly) Clearwater and Maureen (Gregory) McMillan, Ramstein, Germany; grandchildren ,Meghan Murphy, Molly McMillan, Gregory McMillan , Jr. and Gavin McMillan; great granddaughter, Sarah Murphy and sister, Loretta (Joseph) Simon, Glenmont, New York. Viewing will be from 6-8 pm Sunday at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 am Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
