Margot was born in Sunne, Sweden in 1923 and recently celebrated her 97th birthday. She immigrated to the US in 1934 with her parents, Beda Akerlund and Carl Nelson. and lived in Chicago IL. Her US citizenship was finalized in 1939.
Margot met her husband, Rev. Allan Simpson while attending Moody Bible Institute during World War 2. Together they pastored churches in Illinois, Kansas and Florida. Allan predeceased her in 2011 after 67 years of marriage; her son David (Eunice) passed in 2018.
Until the spring of 2020, she was living independently in Pinecrest/Elmcroft and caring for her many family and friends. She was a woman of faith and compassion and loved to entertain. The family dinner table was often filled with visiting guests and neighbors. Her friends were beneficiaries of her cards and letters. No birthday or celebration was ever forgotten.
She enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at North Dunedin Baptist and was an involved member of the Scandinavian Club, Circle of Friends, and Christian Women’s Club. She retired from Pinellas School system and met with the School Belles.
Her daughters, Donna (Lyle) Odland, Barbara (William) Colson; a sister, Joy Alexander; a brother, Carl Nelson; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren are left to cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to North Dunedin Baptist Church or Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.
