Marvin Floyd, 72 a true Native of the Largo, Florida area was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 21, 2016. Marvin graduated from Largo High School Class of ’62, voted most original superlative, a member of the band, the Pep Club, Hi-Y, the Prom Committee, and the Homecoming Committee. Marvin bought a stereo and sound business which handled high end music components named Stereo City located on Missouri Avenue in which he owned and operated for years. Marvin attended University of South Florida where he graduated with a degree in accounting. Even though he was a USF Bull alumnus Marvin was a lifelong Florida Gator fan and Bull Gator. After several years working in the field of accounting and in the legal or law book field he also owned and operated a Mexican restaurant in the Gainesville, FL area named El Toro. After selling that business he then went into the property management business. Twice he developed a thriving business in the property management field and sold it off and the third time he owned and operated a property management business “Floyd’s Lawn Service” which he ran until his recent illness precluded this.
In Marvin’s high school days he had a Studebaker which was a sporty little car but the kicker was it had a Cadillac engine in it. Loud it was, it could wake the dead when he really got into the throttle. Marvin had one of the largest paper routes in Pinellas County and he not only delivered papers but was the wake-up service for many of his clients when he was delivering papers in that Studillac. Folks would say, “Here comes Marvin” or “There goes Marvin” by the very sound of that Studillac. Marvin remained a car guy and continued to have the best of the best in automobiles throughout his life.
Marvin kept Budweiser in business for many years with his own kegerator at home which he and his friends utilized for an afternoon or evening refresher. Running ninety miles an hour all day long tends to make a guy thirsty you know and Marvin was a ninety mile per hour guy. After a few small glasses of Budweiser, Marvin could debate with the best of the best debaters. Politics and Gator history was his all-time data base that you dare not argue or debate him over.
Marvin has been a Godly man his entire life and a friend to most who knew him. He never met a stranger and was there to assist in any and all ways imaginable. Marvin pursued unanswered needs until they were answered and put to rest. He was an animal lover extraordinaire and just could not pass up giving a home to a lonely or abandoned cat or even a stray puppy. Marvin and Cherie have five cats, two dogs, two guinea pigs, and a horse in Tennessee. There was a previous critter nation prior to these. He leaves property in two states and on the river in Dunnellon where he enjoyed fishing and boating. His wife, family and friends now mourn him as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and the Good Lord called him home but we cannot help but smile when remembering all the good times and the everlasting imprint he left on our hearts and lives.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Cherie Floyd, three brothers Kermit Floyd, La Canada, CA, Glen Floyd, Oakworth, GA, Leon Floyd, Largo, FL and three sisters Yvonne Somers, Largo, FL, Geraldine Wells, Brooksville, FL, and Linda Tagliarini, Palm Harbor, FL along with several nieces and nephews.
