

Morris E. Kurtz 96 of Largo, Florida died June 5th 2017 at East Lake Manor, Tarpon Springs, Florida. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 6th 1921; he and his wife Jean moved from Lawrence, Indiana to Caribbean Isles Largo, Florida in 1984. He was preceded in death by her in 1989. Mr. Kurtz graduated from Tech High School in 1938 with a group of 1150 graduates. He was working at Fort Benjamin Harrison when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during World War II. After a six month radio repair course and a course for teletype repair he was sent to the South Pacific. As a sergeant he served on Guadalcanal, various islands up to the Okinawa chain of islands. He installed and maintained Top Secret radio teletype encrypting networks between islands 30 – 45 miles over water. After his discharge in 1946 he joined the Bell Telephone System and retired in February 1983 with 37 years of service. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Barrett and husband Bill Barrett; grandchildren, Megan Lin Barrett, Amber Barrett Cook and husband Jeremy Cook, and William Kurtz Barrett. Mr. Kurtz has three great grandchildren: Max and Nora Cook, and Liam Barrett.
