Gene was a man of the Lord Jesus his whole life. He was born to Roy and Nellie Mae Knowles 4/28/37 in southern California. He spent his first 50 years in California, then nearly 30 years in South Dakota before moving with Glenda, his bride of 62 years, to Florida to live with his youngest son, Houston. He was an engineer for Contel, then for the State of South Dakota. He found the prairie in Pierre to be his favorite place as he said he could hear the Lord there.
Even with Parkinson's disease, Gene would quote 2 Corinthians 12:9 "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness" Even in his last moments, Gene was teaching the Bible, and singing gospel songs to the end with family.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Barry; and his bride, Glenda. He is survived by family members, Houston, Rose, Laurie, Todd, Heather, John, Argelis, Ariana, Josh, Alexia, David, Robert, Colin, Daniel, Jackie & Lyza.
Gene wanted everyone to know about Jesus, spending his last few years at Indian Rocks Baptist church in Largo, FL. He loved to teach everyone Psalm 143:8 "Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee."
Gene's last words for us were to read the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and to listen more, talk less and understand what people need. He left us with these words in all his emails over the years... "Life is a journey not a destination."
