He served honorably in the US Army during WWII. He was a dedicated solider, having received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Medal of Honor, and many other recognitions.
Nicholas owned and operated the Copper Kettle restaurant in Wilmington, DE for over 50 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Florida. His interests after retirement included spending many hours in his studio painting and using his creative artistic side to create beautiful artwork. He was an accomplished artist, sculpturer, inventor, and poet. Nicholas was featured in many news clips for his artwork. He enjoyed traveling; especially to Greece.
Nicholas was loving, funny, and creative. He will be greatly missed. His earthly accomplishments are immeasurable as they have touched the lives of many people. He leaves behind a legacy that will be carried on through the generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years and love of his life, Venetia, many loving nieces and nephews, sister in law, and many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents; Peter and Stella Leounes, his brothers; Anthony Leounes, George Leounes, Thomas Leounes, and sister; Mary L. Toal.
The family held a private service in Nicholas’ honor at Serenity Funeral Home.
