Patricia was a loving wife, sister, stepmother, aunt, and grandmother. To many in the family, she was simply “Trishy,” the favorite aunt. She never forgot a birthday, wedding, graduation, or family milestone, and she always found a way to be there for the people she loved.
Born on May 15, 1945, in New York, NY, to John William and Catherine Murphy, she was the eldest of seven siblings and grew up in Pelham, NY, a hometown she loved. She attended St. Catharine’s Catholic School and graduated with a full scholarship to the Academy of Resurrection in Rye, NY.
A gifted student, Patricia went on to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967. Fluent in French and Spanish, she worked at the United Nations in New York for 20 years. She later partnered with her husband at the Mecleary Insurance Agency in Newtown Square, PA, and continued her career at WellCare Healthcare in Tampa from which she retired in 2015. Patricia was smart, curious, and creative. Over the years, she taught herself to sail, crochet, and, most recently, paint. She also loved cooking and baking.
Patricia shared 34 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John S. “Jack” Mecleary, Jr. They lived in Paoli, PA, and Long Beach Island, NJ before moving to Largo, Florida, in 1991.
She is survived by her brother, Daniel Murphy of Largo, FL; and her sisters, Cathy Uzzillia Newhouse of Seminole, FL, Joan Murphy Connery and her husband Michael of Pelham, NY, Ellen Guarracino of Congers, NY, and Ann Roldan and her husband Oscar of McKinney, Texas.
She is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews: Robert Uzzillia, his wife Shelly, and their children Robbie and Cameron Uzzillia and Jordan McCullough; Michael Connery III, his wife Leigh, and their children Isaac and Henry; Jacqueline Tran, her husband Duyet, and their son Noah; Lauren Guarracino; Andrea Gulley, her husband James, and their children Collins and Jack; Bryan Roldan; Anthony Segno of New York; Michael Segno, his wife Chikako, and their daughter Nami and son Rei; Jennifer Blumenfeld, her husband Jimmy, and their son Skye; Alison Beckwith, her husband Bruce and their children Alex and Maddie. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins from the Helen Murphy Canavan and Kay Murphy Kuper families.
Patricia is also survived by her two stepdaughters: Aimee Dietrich of Newtown Square, PA, her husband Craig, and their children, Jamie and Maggie; and Mia Mecleary of Bethlehem, PA and her children, Andrew and Evan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. “Jack” Mecleary, Jr.; her sister, Marie Murphy Segno; and her stepdaughter, Danielle Whalen.
Family and friends will carry Patricia’s memory in their hearts forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and peace.
