Richard (Dick) Beckner was born November 27, 1936 in Richmond, Virginia. His family moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey around 1946, were he grew up. He entered the US Army so he could go to the Korean conflict and later served two tours in Vietnam as a Special Intelligence and Interrogation Officer with 5th Group, Special Forces. Richard received training and certifications as a RANGER and SPECIAL FORCES and was awarded the TABS and Green Beret, his heart was always true to Special Forces, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor (V) device while serving in the Vietnam Campaign.
When Richard retired from the military, he transitioned to civilian life and started a new career as the Chief Investigator for the Public Defender Office in Pinellas County where, he retired from.
Richard was a Loving, Caring and Devoted Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather Husband, Uncle and Brother. “We all Love you Dad and you will be missed terribly, but we know you have no more pain or suffering and you are with Mom again.”
Richard is predeceased by his Loving wife, Diane Beckner, of 57 years, Brother James Beckner, Daughter Dawn Alexander, Mother Frances and Father Charles (Sid) Beckner.
Survivors include his brothers Dabney and Charles (Mike) Beckner, sister Mary Barber, sons Richard Beckner Jr., Dominic Beckner and daughter Darlene Golden. Spouses are Phyllis Beckner, Roxanne Sykes and Gerard Golden. Grandchildren are Diana Bedford,Nicolas Beckner, Charles, Jonathan and Heather Alexander, Sean Engleke, Chris and Michael Golden, Tiffany Finch, great grandchildren, Carson Beckner, Zoey and Alex Golden, Callie Finch.
Memorial services will held at the home of son Richard Beckner Jr., on Monday, April 1, 2013 beginning at 1:00 PM, for more information please contact at (727) 282-6669.
