Born in Vallejo, CA, on Sept. 27, 1943, to Ruth Gaitheman & Paul Carpenter.
He married Renee Volk, his longtime friend, in 2021 (They worked together at P&R Automation from 1987 - 2000).
Moved from California to Chicago to live with his grandmother, Elsa. His mother remarried several years later to Herb Davis, who adopted and raised Bob as his own son.
Soon after, they moved to Ada, OK, where Bob went to grade school. He told stories of his mom running a small store in town and him riding his horse to school.
Eventually, they moved back to the Chicago area, where Bob attended Libertyville High School and graduated in 1961. He spoke of going into the city, often taking the train to the Museum of Science and Industry.
After Graduation, Bob enlisted in the ARMY and joined the Green Berets. He was in Vietnam in the latter part of the campaign.
After being honorably discharged from service in 1970, he was bartending in the Chicago area. He attended a drafting school and became a mechanical engineer.
He loved scuba diving and photography and took trips to the Caribbean. He loved the tropical vibe and decided to move to Florida around 1975. He had gotten a job with Leacock Tool Co. in Clearwater, where he met his future business partner, Paul Mayo.
In 1986, he and Paul combined their talents and opened P&R Automation Service, Inc in Largo, Florida. The very place he would meet his future wife, Renee Volk. They had a number of large corporate clients, Campbell Soup, Mueller Co., A.O. Smith North America, and FMC Corporation. One of their early clients was NASA, for which they built a machine to detect contaminants on their solid rocket boosters. Their "Motto" was " We Build Your Ideas.
Bob was a friendly, fun-loving guy. He liked playing darts and enjoyed a round of golf on weekends with his buddies. He would often have a couple of beers at Goose's to chat with friends and locals or to watch the Tampa Bay Rays or a TB Lightning Hockey game. He was well-liked and one of the nicest guys you'd be lucky enough to meet. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Renee, step-son Matthew Volk, and step-daughter Rachel Hadden. His Cousin Marsha Groves, who was like a sister, of Sulphur Springs, TX.
A Memorial Gathering will take place at the Moose Lodge #2205 – located 11616 87th St, Largo, FL 33773 on Sunday, January 25th from 2-5 pm.
