Bob was born in Westbrook, ME in 1938 to Lorette (DesRoche) and Alphy Martin. He graduated from Westbrook HS in 1957 and joined the US Marine Corps. He served his country proudly in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Marine Divisions. During his military career he served in Vietnam, earned the rank of SSgt., received several honors, awards and commendations before separating from service in November 1966, to dedicate time to his family. In 1962, he married his wife of 57 years, Mignonne Turcotte, together they raised three children. Bob loved his family and friends immensely. He was a man who would light up a room when he entered.
He was a dedicated member of his community; coaching Little League, teaching CCD classes, serving as an usher and as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St. Philips Parish in Lyman, ME. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge #1470 in Sanford, ME and American Legion Post 273, Madeira, FL. After leaving military life he was employed by Saco Defense making weapons for the military. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and Europe. His hobbies over the years included motorcycle riding and snowmobiling, eventually golfing and playing cards became his passion.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Constance (Martin) Errico and her husband Joseph, their son, Kenneth Errico and brother in law, Edmund LaBrecque and sister in law June Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Mignonne Martin, his daughters Patricia Ellsworth and husband Anthony, Laurie McCallum and husband George and son, Robert Martin II and wife Nancy; his grandchildren Kandice (Poirier) Coulombe, Sean Ellsworth, Marc and Mary Martin and great grandson Campbell, along with numerous extended family members. He also leaves behind his brother Clifford Martin and sisters Olive (Richard) Vargas, Velma LaBrecque, Carol (Lawrence) Caron, and in laws Mr. & Mrs. Rheal Caron, Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Turcotte, Mr. & Mrs. Denis Charbonneau as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 15 at 10:00am at St. Philips Church, 404 Goodwin Mills Road, Lyman, ME with Fr. Brad Morin officiating. The interment will follow at Southern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd, Springvale, ME at 12:00pm.
