Ruby Dell Vaughn

Ruby Dell Vaughn, age 87, of Largo, Florida passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in Ocala, Florida. She was born February 2, 1936 in Baxley, Georgia to Juanita Claxton Brummett but was raised by her grandparents, Willis Stacey & Minnie Claxton.

Ruby met her husband, Jack Vaughn, when he returned from the Korean War. Jack saw Ruby and immediately exclaimed, "I'm gonna marry her". They were married on August 1st, 1953 and for almost 59 years until his passing in 2012. Ruby had a profession with the Pinellas County Education System until her retirement.

Ruby is survived by her children, Lawanda Gilman (Chris), Ranetta Sumner (Bill), Wendell Vaughn (Debbie), Sarah "Beth" Finley (Glenn); siblings, Dallas Claxton, Linda Dempsey, Virginia Griffin; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Jack Vaughn; mother, Juanita Claxton Brummett; grandfather, Willis Stacey Claxton; grandmother, Minnie Claxton; sister, Helen Crosby; brother, Earl Claxton; brother, James Brummett; and grandson, Derek Sumner.

Services honoring Ruby will be held on Sunday April 30th, 2023 at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. Services will begin with a visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Ruby's funeral service will promptly begin at 11am officiated by Rev. Anthony McDaniel followed by a graveside service at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park. The family will then extend an invitation to attendees for a catered reception.
