Thelma O. Dumont

Born on January 18, 1940, in Wilton, New York, just outside Saratoga Springs, Thelma was the beloved daughter of Wesley James Worth and Lillian Hogeboom Worth. She graduated from Saratoga Springs High School, where the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance that defined her life first began to shine.

On May 21, 1960, she married the love of her life, David F. Dumont. Together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, building a home filled with unwavering love, faith, laughter, and devotion. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and partnership, and they created a family that became Thelma's greatest joy.

Thelma dedicated her professional life to education, serving as an elementary physical education assistant teacher with Pinellas County Schools. While she taught at several schools during her career, she spent the majority of those years at Belcher Elementary School in Clearwater, where generations of students remember her encouragement, patience, and enthusiasm. She believed every child deserved to feel included, capable, and confident, and she had a remarkable gift for making physical education both fun and meaningful. Her influence reached far beyond the P.E. field and basketball courts, and countless former students still remember "Mrs. Dumont" with great affection.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Thelma was an original member of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clearwater. Her faith guided the way she lived—always with compassion, humility, generosity, and an open heart toward others.

Nothing brought Thelma greater happiness than her family. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, celebrating each milestone with genuine pride and unconditional love. She was happiest when everyone was together, creating memories around the table, camping at Fort Desoto or simply enjoying one another's company.

Thelma also had an extraordinary love for animals. Whether caring for family pets or showing kindness to every animal she encountered, excluding spiders of course ;) her gentle spirit reflected the compassion she carried throughout her life. Her warmth extended beyond her family to her many friends and neighbors, who knew her as someone who was always ready with a smile, a helping hand, or a kind word. She leaves behind a legacy of friendship, generosity, and quiet strength that touched the lives of so many.

She is survived by her devoted husband, David F. Dumont; her daughter, Laurie Dumont Pascual, and son-in-law, Robert Pascual; her sons, Mark Dumont and daughter-in-law Holly Dumont, Dale Dumont and daughter-in-law Kimberly Dumont, and Timothy (Tim) Dumont. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Christopher Pascual, Robbie Pascual, Tanner Dumont, Katie Dumont, Lauren Dumont, and Lillian Dumont. Thelma has many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention by name, but who were greatly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley James Worth and Lillian Worth, her beloved brothers, Wesley John Worth, Jon Worth, and Gerald A. Worth.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Thelma's life was one of extraordinary love, service, and faith. She leaves behind not only a family who adored her, but also countless students, friends, neighbors, and colleagues whose lives were made brighter because they knew her. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to call her wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, neighbor, and friend.

Visitation will be held at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774 on Sunday, August 23 from 5PM to 8PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clearwater, Florida, with Monsignor Morris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the SPCA Tampa Bay, Largo, FL. a tribute fitting for someone whose love for animals knew no bounds.
