VARAS, Theodore S, 95 of Tarpon Springs and formerly of Largo passed away on Wednesday, April, 18, 2018 peacefully at his home. Ted was born December 7, 1922 in North Braddock, PA to the late Spiro & Ourania (Gregoreadis) Voutsaras. He was the first born of two brothers. Ted entered the US Army on October 15, 1940 in Detroit, MI and received basic training with the 32nd Div-125th Inf. He was sent to CA to patrol the coastline and protect the military installations. Ted joined the 3rd Inf Division on Anzio in April of 1944 as a platoon sergeant and was assigned to Company E. 30th Inf. Campaigns were in Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was wounded in Dec. of 1944 and was discharged on June 25, 1945. After the service he became a nightclub manager and then a Greek Restaurant owner. In 2010, Theodore received the American Society of the French Legion Of Honor award.He married Goldie who predeceased him in 1993. Surviving are two son’s Theodore (Barbara) Varas, Jr of Kalamazoo, MI and Michael (Michelle) Varas of Tarpon Springs, FL, four grandchildren Christopher, Matthew, Jennifer & Jackie and two great grandchildren Alexander & Shelby. Also a brother Nicholas Voutsaras of Lansing, MI, a special nephew Steve Kallas along with several other nieces and nephews.
