At 17, Bill joined the Navy serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He ended his 27 year-long naval career serving the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He continued to support his fellow veterans for an additional 20 years with the Retired Officers Association. After retirement, he and his wife, Norma, carried on their love of travel, but they always enjoyed returning home to Alexandria, VA to cheer on their favorite NFL team, the Redskins. Bill moved to Florida after his wife’s death in 2013 where he was known as a happy-go-lucky guy, always handy with a joke and reminisced of his many happy years in Thailand.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Mike Tyson of Clearwater, Florida, son Robert Boddy of Goldvein, Virginia and daughter, Deborah Applegate of Houston, Texas: and grandchildren: Dicea Applegate, Rhiannon Applegate and Bradford Tyson. The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to any of Bill’s favorite charities: USO, The Wounded Warrior Project, or the Naval Memorial Fund.
