

Agueda "Ida" Yamashita Meli passed away peacefully in her home Friday, September 12, 2014. She was born January 8, 1938, in Piti, Guam. Ida married her sweetheart, Dr. James "Jim" Meli Jr., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 19, 1973. Their marriage was blessed in the Catholic Church on October 26, 1973. Ida and Jim were blessed with a son, Douglas "Doug" James Meli. She left Guam at 17-years old to explore the world, traveling to the U.S. for nursing school. She was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War as a registered nurse, where she met Jim. The two returned to the U.S. where she was honorably discharged after another year of service. She worked as a nurse in several private hospitals while Jim attended medical school. Upon his graduation, they moved all over the world, settling in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1986. In Las Vegas she worked as a nurse, a stay-at-home mother, and was an avid church participant and religious teacher. She was preceded in death by her sisters Maria and Julia, and brothers Louis, Jose, Jesus, Antonio, and Juan. She is survived by her husband Jim; son Doug; sisters Concepcion and Olivia; brother Roque; daughter-in-law Teresa; and granddaughter Corinne.
