

Alan is survived by his daughter, Catherine L. Nelson of Houston, TX, and his son, Craig Nelson (Kathy) of Indianapolis, IN; his two granddaughters, Breia Nelson and Marisa Fontenot, both of Houston, TX; two great-grandchildren, Khai and Peyton; and step-grandchildren, Caroline and Joe. Alan is also survived by his sister, Maureen Leonard of Victorville, CA, and his favorite niece, Michelle Espinoza, of Victorville, CA. He also has several nieces and nephews living around the world. Alan is also survived by the love of his life, Nancy Tarbet, of Henderson, NV.
Alan served 10 years in the Royal Air Force before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1969. He faithfully served in the U.S. Air Force for 36 years in the Office of Special Investigations and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant.
Alan was also a 24-year veteran of the North Las Vegas Police Department and retired in 1997 as the Chief of Police. He was a highly respected founding veteran of the North Las Vegas Police Department and will be remembered as a pillar in the development of the NLVPD.
Alan will be remembered with fondness for his intellect, dry wit, and Scottish personality. He lived a life filled with adventure and service, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, community, and all who knew him.
