Alan was born on October 24, 1947 in Atlantic City, NJ to Rose (nee Klein) and David Sherman and has been a Southern Nevada resident for 43 years. When he was diagnosed with diabetes in his 40’s, Alan researched everything he could about the disease. Becoming a member of the Nevada Diabetes Association, he spent many years sitting on the Board of Directors as well as serving as Board President from 2014-2018. For 29 years, he volunteered as a camp counselor for Camp Buck formally Camp Nevada, for kids with Type 1 diabetes. Camp was the highlight of his summer. He loved seeing the kids, year after year, grow-up and become counselors and even board members. When not volunteering for NDA, he was volunteering as a basketball coach for the YMCA, NYS, I9 sports, and the Boys and Girls Club. Sports were his life. He enjoyed watching basketball, football, hockey and baseball; all Philly teams, of course, with Las Vegas college and pro teams thrown in. Nothing though compared for the love he had for his two daughters, or his girls, as he called them. He was a devoted father who attended every basketball game, dance performance, and orchestra concert his daughters were involved in. And he tried his best, these past few years to attend every basketball game his Grandson, Jaydn, played in. His absence will be missed by so many. He is predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife, Susan (nee Barnett) Sherman; two daughters Cindi Sherman-Sinnott (Annie) and Caryn Sherman; sister, Joyce Sherman-Nelson (Jim); and two grandchildren, Eli Sinnott and Jaydn Sherman. Funeral service will be at 1:30PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas, NV. A committal service will immediately follow at Palm Valley View Cemetery, 7600 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV. Family requests that memorial donations be made to the NSPCA or Nevada Diabetes Association. King David Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
