If one didn't know Uncle he would seem an imposing figure, especially next to Auntie's gentle quietness. But behind his big booming voice was always a warm, affectionate welcome. Visiting the Sepulveda house was like home away from home with chatter and laughter filling the late nights and early mornings, with something yummy always in the kitchen, and with more than enough floor space for huge family slumber parties. It was fun and funny to watch the intense backyard ping pong matches and also kind of surprising to watch Uncle and my dad leave their dad roles in that moment to just be boys, playing on equal ground with my cousins and brother, sometimes with no mercy!
