Alice Hahnfeld, 89, of Henderson, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 earning her wings and halo to join the Angels in Heaven at her daughter's home with family. She left the Alzheimer's demon and was at peace.
She was born on December 5, 1931 to Victor and Mary Ziarkowski at home behind the butcher shop where her father made and smoked the best Polish sausage in Chicago, Illinois. Anxiously awaiting her arrival were brothers Thaddeus, Arthur, Edward and sister Alfreda…all of whom met her in Heaven.
Friends called her "Butch" because she would sneak meat to those who only had potatoes or rice. Always cared about others. She met and married John Los Jr. She often was told, "You should be a movie star". However, she wanted to be a Mother. Soon Edwin was born, followed by Mary Kathie. Tragically, in 1959, she became a widow. We later learned that she was so strong through these times "for her children". We certainly were blessed. In 1968, she met, fell in love and married Eugene Hahnfeld. Their love was such that most dream of. Then another bundle of joy, Rachel. We were a family again. He loved her children as she did his. Doctors told Eugene it is best to move south for health reasons. Alice said not without my kids, the oldest, who were already out of the house. That's the kind of mother she was. And he agreed - that's the kind of "Pa" he was. So, we all packed up and moved to Las Vegas. They bought Village East Cleaners, where the kids learned what the difference was just doing a job, versus being the best. Honesty, quality, and pride were taught. Sadly, Eugene passed in 1991.
Alice stepped up once again and started the Ziarkowski properties. She was the owner of several commercial and residential properties. She was a remarkable woman.
She will be missed every day by her children Edwin (Marilyn) Los, Mary Kathie (Martin Dillman) Los, and Rachel Hahnfeld-Alexander (George); grandchildren, Aaron (Holly) Schlivka, Alyce (Clay) Mack, Bradley Hahnfeld, and her sweet adorable Samuel Alexander; great-grandchildren, Noelle and Hunter Schlivka and Shawn and Austin Mack; stepson, David (Diane) Hahnfeld; honorary family Leo Schlivka and Nancy and Ron Sullivan; and her dog “Mugz”, who stayed by her side constantly.
She loved music and dancing. She was a great cook. Enjoyed entertaining, wining, dining, and laughing. She loved the "good" in life. If you knew her, you loved her. Her smile would light up the room. And she loved Christmas! Many would enjoy the lights and decorations inside and outside of her house. On Christmas day, we would sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, for that was the true meaning.
Afterward we would get the presents from Santa. This tradition will carry on. And all you taught us - to be good people. She told us that we have each other, to stay family. And we will.
We miss you Ma. Always will. You'd be proud of us.
Thank you for being you, our Ma
xoxo
