Allan Pogensky

Born to Harry Pogensky and Josephine Levin on December 31, 1932, he grew up in the Bronx, New York, with his parents and older brother, Arthur. Following high school, Allan served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1955, having received multiple decorations, including a Korean Service Medal. Previously married to Barbara Strauss, in 1980 he met the love of his life, Joyce Beckerman, quickly becoming a surrogate father and, later, a beloved grandfather.

For many years, Allan co-owned a professional floor and carpet cleaning company with his good friend Frank DeChirico, but his passion was boating. He spent countless days and nights exploring the waters around Long Island. After retiring, in 1999 Allan and Joyce moved to Sun City Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada. While he delighted in the warm weather and arid climate, never one to stay on dry land for too long, he frequently vacationed on cruise ships with Joyce, their daughter and her children.

Gifted with a sharp wit, a silver tongue and an infectious smile, Allan brought joy and laughter to everyone who had the pleasure of experiencing his company. His passion for and knowledge of computers continued to expand throughout his retirement, during which he became an instructor for the Sun City Summerlin Computer Club. Allan was also active in his homeowner’s association, where he served as president for several years.

Allan is survived by his partner of 43 years, Joyce Beckerman; their children, David (Sarah) and Lisa; their grandchildren, Laura Grace (John Grasel, fiancé), Conor, Dylan, Kylie and Gavin; his cousin, Walter Greenberg; his brother-in-law, Bob Cohan; and their canary, Tweety. A funeral service for Allan will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by a committal service at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, November 27, 2023, at King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery, 2697 E Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, Nevada 89120.
