

Alvin Birnbaum, 91, passed away May 25, 2011 in Las Vegas. He was born in New York City, graduated from City College of New York, served as captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in World War II, and was a true patriot. Al married Connie and moved to Rochester, N.Y., where they raised their family. A tax partner in two Rochester CPA firms, Al was board member of the NYS Society of CPAs and president and hall of famer of the Rochester Chapter. They moved to Las Vegas in 1981 and he retired from accounting at age 80. He was an avid golfer, poker player, jazz, baseball/football and UNLV Rebels hoops enthusiast. Al is survived by Connie, his loving wife of 62 years; children, Ellen Birnbaum of Las Vegas, Ida Cook and Ira Birnbaum; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
