“Anything is possible.” That is what Alvin Duldulao Saber believed about life. He was a creative man, a perpetual inventor, who seemed to be able to find a solution for any difficulty confronting him. He had faith in his ability to find those solutions. Alvin thoroughly enjoyed understanding how things worked. He possessed an inquisitive, confident, and rational nature matched with a versatile and agile mind. Alvin was a person who believed that he could achieve whatever he set out to do.
Alvin was born on June 6, 1972 at Guam Memorial Hospital in Tamuning, Guam to Lilian and Gabriel Saber. Alvin was raised in Guam with an older brother, Carlito, and a younger sister, Joyce. When he was confronted with a problem, Alvin could develop an imaginative solution, and he derived satisfaction from knowing he had that ability. As a young boy, Alvin was curious, resourceful and interested in anything original. Alvin took part in football and in his spare time, he liked playing and watching sports. He graduated from John F. Kennedy, High School in 1990 where he was a member of the Royal Court, winning Best Halloween Costume dressed as a nerd. He was the only male cheerleader and the class clown.
Alvin was a social and expressive person who was willing to try new things. These qualities drew a lively circle of friends around him. Always interested in his friends’ activities and interests, Alvin was uncritical of his acquaintances. He was sought after by people who recognized that he was generous with his time and energy, and these same friends found Alvin to be very stimulating company. Alvin's humor and curiosity were contagious for those around him. Later in life he became friends with, to name a few, Arthur and Gilda Julaton, Macpin Julaton, Rommel Tolentino, Romeo and Raquel Salvador, Jude Camemo, Rey Escaba, and many more.
Alvin had one son, Gabriel James Garrido. His family was rounded out by his Lhasa Apso, Diesel. He was a focused worker with a strong drive for achievement. He could assess all of the options before him and, using his analytical skills, could comfortably find answers that no one else had even considered. His personal initiative inspired those around him. His primary occupation was as a customer service agent for Cox Communications and worked in the management field for over 25 years in various companies. Alvin always made an effort to be a team player, doing what needed was necessary in order to get the job done.
Alvin developed many interests, including blackjack, fantasy football, and betting, but he especially had a passion for sports, and liked playing golf. Alvin also enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were football, basketball, and baseball.
Having the opportunity to visit and explore a new place always intrigued Alvin. Traveling and going away on vacations offered yet another opportunity for Alvin to expand his ever-growing inventory of knowledge. Favorite vacations included Las Vegas, California, Arizona, and Chicago.
Alvin passed away on November 25, 2019 at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada after complications from a stroke. He is survived by his father, Gabriel Saber; brother, Carlito Saber; sister, Joyce Saber-Arriba; and stepmother, Mildred Saber. Services were held at Palm Southwest Mortuary.
During his lifetime, nothing appeared impossible to Alvin. He met the words “it can’t be done” with the enthusiastic challenge of a “wanna bet” attitude. Alvin was able to recognize the possibilities a new idea held, even when those around him could not. For Alvin, the traditional way of doing things fell short of his expectations, especially if there were original and untested methods for handling a challenge. For Alvin Duldulao Saber, the fun of living his life could be found in the challenge.
