Born on December 8, 1962, in Japan to Sam and Chiyako Colarusso, Angela went on to build a remarkable life defined by strength, loyalty, intelligence, hard work, laughter, friendship, and, above all else, an unwavering devotion to her family.
Angela was the proud and loving mother of Nicholas, Miyanna, and Zachary Trujillo. To say that her children were her world would be an understatement. They were everything to her. There was nothing she would not do for them and no circumstance in which they ever had to question whether their mom would be there. If one of her children needed her, everything else could wait. She would drop what she was doing, call work, and show up. She put her children first, every single time.
She was their fiercest supporter, their constant, and the person who always knew how to make each of them feel important and deeply loved. She celebrated their accomplishments, stood beside them through their hardest moments, and loved them completely and without condition. She could also be stubborn as hell, drive them absolutely crazy, make them laugh, and somehow still be the person they wanted to call first. She wasn't only their mother—she was their greatest supporter, their safe place, and their best friend.
Angela shared more than 30 years with her beloved husband, Richard Trujillo, who preceded her in death. Together, they built the family that became the center of Angela's life. Richard's untimely passing left an immeasurable absence, but Angela continued forward with the strength that defined her, carrying the love and family they created together with her. As they had intended, Angela will now be laid to rest beside Richard.
Angela was incredibly intelligent and deeply dedicated to her career. A health physicist, she spent many years working for the United States Department of Energy. Much of what she did remained a mystery even to her children because of the high-security nature of her government work, but what was never a mystery was the impact she had on the people around her. Her coworkers loved and respected her, looked up to her, and knew her as someone they could count on. Angela took great pride not simply in what she accomplished, but in knowing that through her work she could make a positive difference in other people's lives.
And somehow, the accomplished professional and devoted mother were always one and the same. Angela could spend her days doing important government work and still be in the stands for her sons' baseball games—often arriving in her high heels. She showed up. That was simply who Angela was.
After retiring, Angela embraced a new chapter of her life and truly lived it. She filled her days with friendships, laughter, activities, and the people she loved. She played pickleball, faithfully cheered for the Green Bay Packers, and loved going to Pilates every day with her daughter, Miyanna. What may have looked like an everyday routine became treasured time between a mother and daughter who were also best friends.
Angela also adored her dogs. Bailey and Bella were deeply loved members of her family, as was Mimi, her mother Chiyako's dog, whom Angela welcomed into her home after her mother's passing. Caring for them was simply another expression of the enormous capacity Angela had to love and nurture those who depended on her.
Angela was strong, loyal, dedicated, intelligent, funny, and fiercely loving. When she loved someone, she loved them fully. She was the kind of person who showed up—not only when life was easy, but especially when it wasn't.
That strength was never more evident than during the final two months of her life. Faced with an incredibly difficult illness, Angela fought with extraordinary courage and determination. The same strength—and, yes, the same stubbornness—that had carried her and her family through so much remained with her until the very end. Her children stayed beside her through those final days, surrounding her with the same unconditional love and devotion that she had spent a lifetime giving to them.
Angela is survived by her children, Nicholas, Miyanna, and Zachary Trujillo; her sister, Rose Haunreiter; her brother, Sam Colarusso; her beloved dogs, Bailey, Bella, and Mimi; and the many friends, coworkers, and loved ones whose lives were made better simply by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Trujillo, and her parents, Sam and Chiyako Colarusso.
Angela lived a full and meaningful life. She built an accomplished career, formed lasting friendships, laughed often, loved fiercely, and raised three children who never had to wonder how much their mother loved them. She created a family and a legacy that will continue long beyond her lifetime.
Her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. But the love Angela gave so freely does not end here. Her strength lives on in her children. Her loyalty lives on in them. Her intelligence, humor, determination, stubbornness, and extraordinary capacity to love live on in them.
For Miyanna, Nicholas, and Zachary, she will always simply be Mom—the woman who showed up, the person who put them first, their greatest supporter, and one of the greatest loves of their lives.
And now, Angela will be laid to rest beside Richard, together again in the place they always intended to share.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and carried with us always.
