Antonia Jurado Guzman

Antonia “Noning” Jurado Guzman, M.D., 86, passed away on September 5, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Antonia was born on June 13, 1940, and was a native of Amlang, Rosario, La Union, Philippines. She was the daughter of Mariano and Adela Jurado. Her father passed away when Antonia was only five years old, leaving her mother, Adela, to raise their five children.

Education and service were deeply rooted in the family. Antonia and each of her four siblings—known throughout their lives by the family nicknames Nonoy, Lina, Inday, Dodong, and Noning—pursued professional careers: Mariano Jr. in forestry, Catalina in pharmacy, Cleofe in nursing, Migdonio in dentistry, and Antonia in medicine.

Antonia attended Manila Central University, where she studied medicine and met the love of her life, Generoso Rabaja Guzman. They married in the Philippines on February 20, 1966, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

In the late 1960s, Antonia and Generoso immigrated to the United States to begin their careers in America. They often remembered arriving with little more than their medical school diplomas and a suitcase. From those beginnings, they built a life together centered on faith, family, medicine, and service to others, raising three sons along the way.

Their medical careers took them from Chicago, Illinois, to Cairo, Illinois; Dexter, Missouri; Herrin, Illinois; Ada, Oklahoma; and ultimately Hayti, Missouri. As an obstetrician-gynecologist, Antonia cared for generations of women and families during a medical career spanning more than four decades before retiring and making Las Vegas their home.

Her patients, friends, and family remember a woman who was remarkably intelligent, kind, generous, compassionate, funny, and never afraid to tell it like it was. She was also a meticulous perfectionist who believed things should be done properly and kept in their proper place. She had an extraordinary eye for detail and a strong sense of order, whether in her work or in everyday life. Her home was impeccably clean and organized, and her spelling and grammar were equally impeccable. A misspelled word or grammatical mistake rarely escaped her notice. She was exceptionally good at math and never reached for a calculator, preferring to work things out herself rather than rely on one. She devoted herself to medicine, but the roles she treasured most were those of wife, mother, and grandmother.

Antonia loved traveling with her husband and children and simply spending time with the people she loved. She loved crocheting blankets and filled her home with plants of all sizes, which she carefully tended. She also enjoyed watching basketball, playing Chinese checkers, and going out to eat, particularly for seafood. Red Lobster was a favorite, as were the lettuce wraps at P.F. Chang’s, and few things could compete with a good all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet.

She also loved to shop. Department stores such as Famous-Barr, Dillard’s, and Macy’s were favorite destinations for finding blouses, and she enjoyed browsing mall jewelry stores and shopping for handbags—not only for herself, but often as gifts for family and friends.

Music was another lifelong pleasure. Antonia especially loved classic country music, including George Jones, Don Williams, and Kenny Rogers. At home, she enjoyed everything from game shows and local news to Dancing with the Stars. Years earlier, during busy days practicing medicine, she and Generoso would sometimes come home for a meal after delivering a baby and wind down together watching The Jerry Springer Show.

Her Catholic faith remained an important part of her life. In Las Vegas, she attended Christ the King Catholic Church and the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer. Her faith was reflected in her devotion to her family and in the generosity and compassion she extended to others throughout her life.

Antonia shared 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Generoso. She was a devoted mother to Gerald (Denise) Guzman of Las Vegas, Nevada; Grayson Guzman of Chandler, Arizona; and Garett (Natalie) Guzman of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a loving grandmother to Anthony, Griffin, Gavin, Evianna, and Quinn. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members in the United States and the Philippines.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Mariano and Adela, and her four siblings, Mariano Jr. (Jane), Catalina, Cleofe, and Migdonio (Consolacion).

Antonia lived a remarkable life—from her childhood in La Union, to medical school in Manila, to building a new life and medical career in the United States. But she will be remembered just as much for the warmth, humor, generosity, and unmistakable attention to detail she brought to everyday life, and for the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
