With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Ellen Martin, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who left this world on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a breast cancer survivor and passed at home while courageously battling Leukemia. Barbara’s tenacity and strength are admirable, and her loss leaves a profound void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born in Alaska on August 24, 1953, she embodied the pioneering spirit of the Last Frontier through her unwavering commitment to being authentically herself. Barbara was a talented craftswoman, an active member of the Wasilla Lioness Club, and made significant contributions to local government and wholesale distribution. She reveled in summers filled with fishing and cherished fall moose hunting excursions with friends who were like family. After relocating to Las Vegas, she found joy in watching hummingbirds in her backyard, trying her luck at slot machines, and savoring a fine meal out.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Mildred Link, her sister Shelia Lambert, and her nephew Matthew Lambert. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth Martin; her children, Genia Martin and Rayette Martin; son-in-law, Christian de Verteuil; step-grandchildren, Justin de Verteuil, Samantha de Verteuil, Liam de Verteuil, Megan Weyandt, and Brooke Weyandt; step-great-grandchildren, Myles and Desmond de Verteuil; her brother, Dale Link; sister-in-law, Arlinda Johnson; nephew, Brett Johnson; and niece, Margaret Lambert.
As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound legacy she leaves behind. Her love and inspiration will continue to resonate through the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her beloved family members, friends, and colleagues, who find solace in the countless precious moments shared and the profound impact she had on their lives.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Barbara will be held at 9:00 am on June 21, 2024, at Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or a local blood bank, both causes close to her heart.
