

Barbara Morris was born on October 31, 1957, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to parents Ruth and William Mannery, Sr. Ruth was a stay-at-home mom and William Sr. was a cook in the United States Navy. Barbara passed away May 31, 2026, at the age of 68 years.
Like most military families, the family was stationed in many different military outposts, but Long Beach, California was home. This is where Barbara spent her childhood and young adult years. She was diagnosed with asthma at an early age. This condition she battled throughout her life.
After graduating from high school, Barbara decided to attend California State University in Long Beach, California (CSULB). She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 1982. It is here at CSULB, Barbara met her future husband, Dexter Morris. They married in June of 1987, one month after Dexter received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
Their first child, Scott, was born in February of 1989. In August of 1989, Barbara and Dexter decided to relocate from the Long Beach area to Las Vegas, Nevada and have resided in Las Vegas since that time. In May of 1991, they welcomed the second addition to the family, Calida. Barbara enjoyed the life of a stay-at home mom and ensured Scott and Calida's needs were met. She stressed the importance of a good education.
Once both children were in high school, Barbara decided to work in Dexter's optometry practice. She learned the eyecare business quickly and was passionate about eyewear. She wore many hats in the office, but her main titles were administrator and buyer. Barbara was a natural as a buyer. Her outgoing and vibrant personality led to many long-lasting relationships with her sales representatives. Barbara knew where every frame in the office was located- a fantastic skill and talent. Barbara worked in the office for over 20 years and was very instrumental to the success of the practice. She went above and beyond to ensure patients received the best care and were happy with the goods and the services.
When not at the office, Barbara enjoyed gardening (making sure her bougainvilleas and roses looked great), jazz concerts, movies, Broadway musicals and plays, spending time with family and friends, and spending time with her two granddaughters, Caleze and Zuri.
Barbara was a very generous and caring person. She gave her time and resources to many community organizations. Victory Missionary Baptist Church was her church home. She was also a very proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Theta Theta Omega Chapter and the Las Vegas Chapter of Smart Set.
Barbara Morris is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dr. Dexter Morris, son, Scott Morris, daughter, Calida Loza, and two granddaughters Caleze and Zuri. She is also survived by her brothers William Mannery, Jr, and Patrick Mannery, and a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and William Mannery, Sr., sisters Carmen and Dorrell, and brother Kurt Mannery.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday July 6, 2026, at Palm Mortuary & Cemetery on Eastern Avenue, 7600 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89123. The Committal Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Please join the family for a reception at 1:30 P.M.
