When Barry and Carol married in March 1983 she had not realized that her Mr Right’s first name was “Always” ……
Barry was a very special man. He died, aged 80, at home on 5 January 2024 and is now free of pain. He was dearly loved by his wife Carol, his son Kevin and daughter Melody and their extended families, and his brother Arthur and wife Gill. We will miss him greatly.
Barry was a very proud Brit – and equally proud to have made the choice to become a US citizen in 2011.
He served in the Royal Air Force for 15 years, and worked in the IT industry as a service engineer repairing equipment and bringing grins and lightheartedness to each client visit.
He was an avid Arsenal fan, a golfer, and a real joker – he had comments for every occasion, and most were irreverent and inappropriate! His friends and family loved his humor – even if jokes had been heard before we all still laughed with him.
He created a beautiful wild flower garden for butterflies and birds, and a fruit orchard, sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors – the lemons were as large as grapefruit – the figs absolutely delicious.
He loved to cook, to make wonderful, rich, and alcoholic cakes and pastries for the holidays, and to concoct his own specialty cocktails. Whenever we drink a cocktail in future we can remember Barry, his smile, and his irresistible, infectious laughter.
While Barry was not perfect, he certainly succeeded in life…….
What is success? – Ralph Waldo Emerson
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!
